Microscopy is indeed a powerful tool for the study of charge density wave (CDW) phases in transition metal dichalcogenide systems and of phase transitions associated with such phases.. No clear evidence for CDW phases have yet been reported for GICs.

The latter are frequently referred to as “van der Waals” type of interactions, though some contributions from covalent and ionic interaction are also possible, particularly in the intercalate complexes.
