Seam Tracking System Prototypes,Umeagukwu and coworkers at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA report the development of a robotic seam tracking system based on ultrasonic range sensors (Umeagukwu, et al. 1989). The initial prototype is designed to track 2D-seams in a nonwelding environment. Two seam types tested include lap joints and vee-joints.
