,The 17 August 1999 G?lcük (Kocael?)- Ar?f?ye (Adapazari) and 12 November 1999 Düzce Earthquakes, NWe east of G?lcük-Arifiye line and created a 38 km long surface rupture. The maximum rigth-lateral displacement of 4.5 m occurred in the middle of the surface rupture. To the south of Düzce, the surface ruptures of two earthquakes overlapped by about 10 km length. Düzce earthquake must have been triggered by G?lcük-Arifiye earthquake.

Imaging of the Izmit Rupture from the Strong Motion Records,sula over about 30 km while it stopped abruptly at depth at the termination of the eastern (Karadere) segment. The slip duration is between 2 and 4 s except in the hypocentral area that slipped in about 1 s. The seismic moment inferred is about 2.5 × 10. N·m.
