Its role in activating the molting gland was shown by Williams (1946, 1947) in the great saturniid .,by Possompès (1953) in the blowfly .,and subsequently in various species. ., moreover, molting glands have been shown to be stimulated by the brain (Agui, 1975).

Diapause,The term . covers processes that can occur at different developmental stages. Depending on the insect species, the adult, pupa, larva, and embryo may enter diapause, but these diapauses may be of varying intensity, obligatory or facultative.
