Production of Erythroid Precursor Cells in Long-Term Cultures of Mouse Bone Marrow Cells,s.. A significant deficiency of the system, however, has been the consistent inability to generate and maintain erythroid cells in the cultures. In this chapter, we report that although no differentiated erythroid cells persist in the long term cultures, early erythroid precursor cells (i.e., BFU-e) are actively produced.

Erythropoiesis ,: A Brief Introduction,ure such as coverslip preparations, hanging-drop cultures, coverslip chambers, and agar cultures were also applied using bone marrow cells. Among those methods, the cell suspension culture, introduced by Osgood and Muscovitz,. was advantageous because absolute cell counts and smear preparations could be performed.
