Electron- and Hole-Doping Effects in Manganites Studied by X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy,e Mn .-edge XANES do not give any evidence for creation of the Mn. (or Mn.) ions by Ca (or Ce) dopants. Such results further questions the validity of double exchange mechanism in understanding the anomalous properties of manganites.

Surface and Interface Magnetism Using Radioactive Probes,magnetic roughness on the atomic scale. Correlating the experimental .. values with the number of their nearest Ni and Pd neighbours, the coordination number, nonlinear dependences were found. These findings are compared with recent theoretical studies which were prompted by the experiments.

Xenon-ion Induced Magnetic and Structural Modifications of Ferromagnetic Alloys,n of the external magnetic field during implantation. Phase shifts obtained from magnetic force microscopy confirmed these modifications. The effects of Xe-ion irradiation in permalloy films are much weaker and underline the importance of magnetostriction in the variation of the coercivity and anisotropy.

Heavy Ion Irradiated Ferromagnetic Films: The Cases of Cobalt and Iron,luences of internal and external strain fields, an external magnetic field and pre-magnetization have been studied. A comprehensive understanding of the various effects and underlying physical reasons for the modifications appears to emerge from these investigations.
