How Many Populations of Cells Occur in the Mesenchymal Blastema?owth rate. A literature survey finds no distinct subpopulations have been identified in the blastema by other criteria. Consequently, blastemal mesenchyme cells can still be validly considered as a single population.

Production of Growth Factors by the Blastema During Limb Regeneration of Urodeles (Amphibia) on blastema cells, extraction of heparin-binding growth factors from blastemata and immunolocalization of aFGF. Our results show that both epidermal cap and blastema mesenchyme contain aFGF. This growth factor is probably involved in blastema cell proliferation during regeneration but not in the neurotrophic activity of blastemata.

Epimorphic Regeneration and the Immune Systemof regeneration. This suggests that the nature of wounds can modulate expression of cellular immunity which, in turn, can affect mechanisms of wound repair, e.g. epimorphic regeneration vs fibroplasia and fibrosis.
