描述Attention is focused on a suspension of buoyant particles(or droplets) in acontinuous fluid. In the presence of aforce field, gravitational orcentrifugal, and exposed toordinary boundary constraints, a variety of fascinatingflows can be obtained. These motions are essentialingre-dients in the widely used separation technology, where im-provedand new designs may be beneficial, but they are alsointeresting from a broader, academic point of view. Inthese respects, the recentinvestigations on these flowspatterns, their underlying mechanisms and mathematicalmodeling - have accrued to a significant, relevant bodyofknowledge. The main objective of this book is to summarize -in asystematic, coherent and consistent fashion - thetheoretical up to datecontributions which seem fundamentalin understanding, simulation and development of the subject.

Boundary Friction Effects in Rotating, Straight Configurations,ure domain is oblivious to the presence of the walls. The solid boundaries thus influence the geometry of the flow field, not the velocity. Frictional boundary constraints, such as no-slip, could not — and have not — been incorporated.

Physico-Mathematical Formulation,tion in the flow fields considered below, no special distinction is required. Moreover, no symbol will be used to designate the averaged variables, unless specifically stated otherwise. It should be understood that, when dealing with a two-phase flow field, the averaged dependent variables are used.
