Alex and the Origin of High-Temperature Superconductivity,ty promoted by prominent theoreticians, Alex Müller has been the true invariant who stood by his intuition and conviction that the lattice, not the spin fluctuation, provides the basis for the mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity. Recent developments are beginning to show that after all he may have been right all along.

Exciting Times in Condensed-Matter Physics,f superconductivity in cuprates on the course of solid-state physics in general and, in parts, on my own research since then. Considering the occasion this is done in a rather concise format and is not intended to be a serious review effort.

Raman Study of the Anharmonicity in YBa2Cu3Ox,on, where a softening of the in-phase phonon frequency occurs, indicate that the anharmonicity is not enhanced by the sudden increase in the CuO. buckling. The results fully agree with recent studies of the ortho-II phase but they do not comply with a static double-well potential of the apical oxygen atom at optimal doping.

,Electronic Phase Separation and Electron–Phonon Coupling in Cuprate Superconductors,ex due to strong correlations. In this chapter we review the particular contribution of the Stuttgart-Tartu-Cottbus group to this field and discuss how the current status of experimental results provides affirmation to their ideas.
