Trapped-Ion Qubits,d behaviour of a ‘crystal’ of trapped ions near their motional ground state. The shared motional degrees of freedom of such a crystal allow the implementation of quantum ‘logic gates’, i.e. multi-qubit entangling operations.

Raman Interactions, model system, and then describe the undesired photon scattering (incoherent couplings) that produce a considerable portion of the error in our experiments. We then calculate the coupling rates for calcium, and conclude with experimental verification of these models.
