Detection of DNA Damage in Hematopoietic Stem Cellsall, the Comet and Halo assays are powerful means of directly measuring DNA damage. We recommend the below methods for detecting damage in hematopoietic stem cells, but the methods can easily be adjusted for measuring damage in any type of single cells in suspension.

Evaluating Histone Acetylation in Mouse Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells Using Chromatin Immuarly under stress, offers the potential for therapeutic intervention. We have utilized Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) in HSPCs to understand epigenetic regulation in response to ionizing radiation. This technique can be applied reliably to rare hematopoietic cells and offers a powerful tool to explore epigenetic regulation in HSPCs.
