Potential for CO2 reduction on a heavy-duty diesel engine for on-road applications: experimental inciency of the base engine. Efforts have focussed on all engine sub-systems, targeting improvements in mechanical, combustion and gas exchange efficiencies. Parallel activities addressing recovery of waste-heat via Rankine cycle and turbocompound were also done, but are beyond the scope of this paper
