Vapour Compression Heat Pump Fluids Properties and Selection,The fluid of a heat pump plays an essential role as heat is moved through the pump by its flow: the vaporization of the fluid collects the low temperature heat from the outside source, its condensation releases the heat at a higher temperature level. This operation implies, as shown in Figure 1, that the fluid is compressed before being condensed.

Developments in Vapour Compression Heat Pumps,Until recently the vast majority of vapour compression heat pumps and refrigerators worked on the Rankine Cycle and were powered by an electric motor drive. However research and development work is proceeding to enable advances to be made with this system and to investigate and exploit the potential of alternative cycles and power sources.
