Mark L. Braunsteinarious parts of mathematics. Many thanks are due to R. L. Wilder whose pioneering work in this area began some 50 years ago and continued for over 40 years. Today the subject has Professor Wilder’s indelible mark on it. It is mature, active and with important problems still remaining to be solved.
