Some metallic ions alter osteoblastic cell behavior and stimulate the cell functions, such as proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization, while for several ions, there is an appropriate amount for upregulation of such cell functions.

Hermann Hahn area developed using the dealloying method. The dealloying method followed by the oxidation treatment was found to decrease the ion release. By optimizing the dealloying conditions to suppress surface area development, drastic improvement in the biocompatibility of these Ti alloys is expected.
