Bohr: Success and Ambiguity in a Period of Transitionach, and underlying philosophy dominated atomic physics to an unprecedented extent in the period from 1916 to 1925. This coincides exactly with the period Kramers spent in Copenhagen, so apart from the initial phase from 1913 to 1916, Kramers was directly involved in the formulation, elucidation, and application of quantum theory.

The Revolution in Progresszed and scrutinized, and it was there, strongly influenced by Bohr, that new results were eventually synthesized into a coherent, complete scheme. Thus, Kramers spent his last year in Copenhagen in the midst of this exuberant scientific environment.
