描述.The aim of the book is to provide a succinct overview of the current status of glycoscience from both basic biological and medical points of view and to propose future directions, in order to facilitate further integrations of glycoscience with other fields in biological and medical studies..Glycans (carbohydrate oligomers) are the so-called “building blocks” of carbohydrates, nucleic acids, proteins and lipids and play major roles in many biological phenomena as well as in various pathophysiological processes. However, this area of glycoscience has been neglected from the research community because glycan structures are very complex and functionally diverse and as compared to proteins and nucleic acids simple tools for the amplification, sequencing and auto-synthesis of glycans are not available. Many scientists in other fields of research have now realized that glycosylation, i.e. the addition of glycans to a protein backbone, is the most abundant post translational modification reactions and is an important field of research and sometimes they require a glycobiology and/or glycochemistry approach to be used. Automated Programmable One-Pot Synthesis of Glycansboring group participation. This reactivity-based strategy has been applied to one-pot glycosylation reactions where a series of building blocks with identical leaving groups react sequentially in one vessel without laborious intermediate purification steps. It provides rapid access to oligosaccharides with a wide-range of molecular diversity.

Simultaneous Quantification of Nucleotide Sugar Metabolism by LC and LC-MSMS method, which is based on mass isotopomer analysis of nucleotide sugars metabolically labeled with .C.-glucose, the metabolic pathways governing UDP-GlcNAc synthesis and utilization were characterized. Here, these strategies are reviewed and the biochemical significance of nucleotide sugars in cellular glycosylation is discussed.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-87321-8s present carbohydrate ligands in a manner that mimics interactions at cell–cell interfaces. The most useful application of glycan array is the study of protein–sugar interaction. Moreover, this platform can also be used for pathogen detection, cancer studies, carbohydrate-based vaccine validation, and drug screening.
