Chemical Modification of Heparin and Heparosanle to generate polymers that can regulate biological processes beyond hemostasis. Here we describe a variety of simple chemical modification methods, .-acetylation, .-deacetylation, .-sulfation, .-sulfation, 2-. desulfation, and complete desulfation, to prepare heparin-like polymers with distinct sulfation patterns.

Therefore, synthesis of PAPS carrying sulfur isotopes is critical in the preparation of labeled GAGs for biochemical studies. Here we describe a robust in vitro enzymatic synthesis of sulfur isotope-enriched PAPS which allows for heavy- or radio-isotope labeling of GAG chains.
