https://doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4615-9352-2vents approaches the extinction event at the end of the Ordovician in importance. The Ordovician global bio-events appear to have been synchronous with major eustatic fluctuations of the sea-level. However, not all such fluctuations led to noteworthy extinctions.

These events, clearly expressed in lithology and fossil content, are probably caused by eustatic sea level changes. They are demonstrated in a similar manner in many other areas, even distant and of different tectonic regimes.
