At the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, brain tumours are present in about 2.5% of all admissions to the neurosurgical division or approximately 50 cases a year.

Dr. BUCY has pointed out that surgical removal of the more malignant gliomas is not feasible. Total extirpation of the tumor leaves the patient with an unacceptable outcome in most treatment situations.
