Organic Solvent-Tolerant Microorganismshese microbes, especially those that are organic solvent tolerant, from the deep-sea mud samples. Such microorganisms could prove useful for new biotechnology application, such as two-phase (water/organic solvent) bioreacter systems.

Unfortunately, that dive was not for scientific purposes, and no films were made or samples collected, so their story could not be confirmed scientifically.

The availability of nutrients, being geographically highly variable, and the elevated pressures characterized the deep sea sediments as potentially unique bacterial environments.
