Techniques for Determining the Brown Plant Hopper , (St?l) Resistance in Rice in VietnamRI 1996). MTL649 and OM 10043 rice varieties not only gave higher yields but also possessed both bph4 and bph18 genes. Of 34 rice varieties evaluated using molecular markers RG457 and RM190, 5 exhibited BPH resistance that are heterozygous genotypes with the band size varying from 200 to 600?bp.

Techniques for Determining Mechanisms of Resistance: Antixenosis for Feeding pests has been described in this chapter. The experimental techniques should be easy to execute, repeatable, and precise. It should be applicable to a wide range of insects with the same or different types of mouthparts. The test should generate quantitative data amenable for statistical analyses.
