Evolution and International Organizationed through a balance between input through neutral mutation and loss through genetic drift in finite populations. The neutral mutations are only a fraction of all mutations that occur at a cistron; the non-neutral mutants that occur are deleterious and hence are removed through purifying selection.

The Possibility of Stress-Triggered Evolution, environmental stress will tend to trigger bursts of genomic change. This article explores ways in which such cooperative interactions could have evolved through both individual and group selection, and suggests the kinds of experimental tests that would be necessary to attempt to verify the existence of such a process.

The model allows for a very small proportion of advantageous mutations responsible for adaptive evolution (Nei, 1975).
