Ethics, Medical Research, and Medicinely linked to experimental systems. I discuss two such data-driven studies, which highlight how combining theory and data allows us to understand how evolution has proceeded on Earth. Finally, I present several open challenges in the field of network evolution, and I suggest how to tackle them.
