描述That precursors of adult coronary artery disease, hypertension, and type II diabetes begin in childhood have been clearly established by the Bogalusa Heart Study. This unique research program has been able to follow a biracial (black/white) population over 35 years from childhood through mid-adulthood to provide perspectives on the natural history of adult heart diseases. Not only do these observations describe trajectories of cardio-metabolic risk variables leading to these diseases but provide a rationale for the need to begin prevention beginning in childhood. The trajectories of the burden of cardio-metabolic risk variables in the context of their fetal origin and chromosome telomere dynamics provide some insight into the metabolic imprinting in utero and aging process. The observed racial contrasts on cardio-metabolic risk variables implicate various biologic pathways interacting with environment contributing to the high morbidity and mortality from related diseases in our population. To address the seriousness of the onset of cardiovascular disease in youth, approaches to primordial prevention are described focussing on childhood health education as an important aspect of Pre

Fetal Origins of Variables Related to Cardio-Metabolic Risk, ses such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus in later life. This overview focuses on the racial (black–white) divergence in birth weight and adverse effects of low birth weight on aspects of cardio-metabolic risk involving anthropometric, hemodynamic, metabolic and inflammatory va

Trajectories of Variables Related to Cardio-Metabolic Risk from Childhood to Young Adulthood, to aging adults as part of the evolution of early natural history of cardiovascular (CV) diseases. This report details the time-course or trajectories of cardio-metabolic risk variables from childhood to adulthood in the Bogalusa Heart Study cohort. The observed adverse trajectories of body fatness

,Black–White Divergence Influencing Impaired Fasting Glucose and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, factor for pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, which may represent the two categories of impaired glucose regulation. Recognition of the importance of black–white contrast in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus has stirred up interest in its potential role in the development and progression of

,Birth Weight, Stimulus Response and Hemodynamic Variability Implicate Racial (Black–White) Contrastvations from the Bogalusa Heart Study suggest different mechanisms are involved in their control and are influenced by ethnicity and gender. Heart rate seems to have a greater central autonomic control, being slower in black children than in white children, while risk factors, heart rate and BP are
