Cerebral Edema: Pathophysiology and Principles of Managementf cerebral perfusion. Frequent monitoring, including the neurologic exam, is the key to early detection of clinically significant cerebral edema and thereby prevention of secondary injury. Multiple therapies for cerebral edema may be required and should be instituted in a stepwise fashion, employing least invasive measures first.
