,Mach’s Contribution to the Development of Gas Dynamics,lights at subsonic and supersonic velocities; he was the first to recognize the real nature of shockwaves in air and their ‘irregular’ reflection pattern; he visualized particular wave phenomena in a supersonic free-gas jet; and he originated the experimental techniques which were necessary to perform those investigations.

Ernst Mach and Contemporary Physics,h as Einstein tended to disagree with Mach’s philosophical views, he fully acknowledged the stimulus he had received as a young man from the unorthodox approaches to mechanics and gravitation pioneered by Mach.

Br. arranged an international conference on Mach, and we here, with this symposium, will be trying to do our part in honoring Mach’s personality and his work.
