Trace Metals and Ecotoxicological Effects in the Pearl River Estuary,us biological levels such as the biochemical and physiological levels, the latter manifested in deleterious reproductive effects. Revealing the impacts of contaminants other than trace metals in the estuarine biota will be particularly relevant in future studies.

Over recent decades, there have been numerous studies to measure the environmental concentrations of these contaminants in water, sediments and organisms in the PRE. Pesticides are of particular environmental concern in the estuary. Eutrophication has also added to environmental concern for the estuary.
