Deformities in larval , spp. and dominant Chironomini from the St. Clair River,of deformed ligula at a control site in Lake Superior was 4 percent. The incidence of deformities in . larvae was lower than that in . larvae from the same site, but greater than that in other chironomid genera.

Use of a geographic information system data base to measure and evaluate wetland changes in the St. area between 1939 and 1985 ranged from 7 200 to 7 317 ha over a 46-year period of high and low water. There was greatest variation in areas of emergent wetland and scrub-shrub wetland, which appeared to be responding primarily to changes in water level.

Distribution and abundance of young fish in the St. Clair River and associated waters, Ontario,calized, species was gizzard shad, which reached a peak mean density of 4600 larvae 100 m-. in an agricultural canal. Adjacent waters contribute greatly to the fish communities of the river and adjoining Lakes Huron and Erie, especially in terms of the number and quantity of forage species.

Tumors in fish from the Detroit River,erall, 8.2 percent of the fish examined had oral/dermal lesions and 10.1 percent had liver lesions. Liver and skin tumors were found to be age-related in bullheads and size-related in walleye. B ased on the fish surveyed, the incidence of tumors in fish from the Detroit River was similar to that observed in other chemically contaminated waterways.
