Enumeration of Extremal Self-Dual Lattices,We saw in Chapter 7 that the minimal norm of a unimodular lattice in .. does not exceed [./8] + 1. If the minimal norm is equal to this quantity the lattice is called extremal. In this chapter we show that there are unique extremal lattices in dimensions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15, 23, 24, and no other such lattices.

We give Niemeier’s list of 24-dimensonal even unimodular lattices, use the mass constant to verify that it is correct, and then enumerate all unimodular lattices of dimension . ≤ 23.
