A back-propagation algorithm used in the ANN model has successfully predicted the surface roughness with the mean squared error to be below 10%. This summarizes that ANN model can sufficiently estimate surface roughness in the abrasive waterjet machining of sheet metals with a reasonable error range.

Andrew Wendahl,Alaa Abd-Elsayedwas simulated in MATLAB Simulink both with and without external disturbance. In addition, the proposed control approach is compared to the PID control scheme in terms of integral square error (ISE). The results show that sliding mode control utilizing the tanh function has excellent performance and resilience against perturbation at par with PID.
