A barely decipherable handwritten poetry fragment entitled “V-Day August 14th, 1945” in the Vassar College archives that has gone unnoted reveals Bishop’s anxieties about the war and foreshadows her difficulties in negotiating a Cold War narrative intent on the militarization of domestic and foreign policy.
