Upscattering of Ultra-Cold Neutrons (UCN) by Excitations in Superfluid 4Heive potentials to a neutron. The UCN, with wavelengths ? interatomic spacing are affected by the space average of these potentials which is about 10. eV for many materials. On total reflection the UCN wavefunction penetrates into the reflecting surface and can be absorbed or upscattered by the thermally vibrating nucleii located there.
