Electroslag Technology at the “Izhstal” Manufacturing Associationent, about 1.65 (ingot weight, 1350 kg; final product yield, 820 kg). In view of these figures, most of the development efforts at the MA were directed toward improving the efficiency of the process (reducing material and electric power consumption and increasing furnace productivity).

In this chapter three examples of ACS are given to illustrate the various control structures that were developed for specifiic ESR furnaces and technologies. These ACS were built in the Kramatorsk Manufacturing Association (MA) NKMZ, in the Kiev MA “Bolshevik,” and in the Zhdanov metallurgical plant “Azovastal.”

Thirty Years of Electroslag Remelting Steel Production at the “Dneprospetsstal” Plant techniques for remelting a wider variety of steels. Further developments in ESR techniques and equipment were carried out jointly with research institutes, especially with the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute—the founder of ESR.
