On Quantifying the Distinctions Between the Cusp and the CLEFT/LLBL, time width increases (decreases) when B. changes from northward to southward. A brief review of the various previous attempts at distinctions between the cusp and the cleft is given, as is a brief summary of all known differences between the two regions as observed at low altitude.

Two-Dimensional Mapping of Dayside Convection,onvection electric field. Cusp precipitation is seen at 70°Λ and 09 MLT at the sunward/anti-sunward convection reversal immediately after a sudden turning of interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) B. from -5 nT to +5 nT while IMF B. was-10 nT.

Balloon Observations of the Electric Field Over South Pole: Convection Patterns,ermine if there are any differences between data obtained in this way and data obtained from other techniques. The overall patterns show the expected two-cell convection pattern. In detail, the various individual patterns show subtle but interesting departures from previous results.

,Pc 1–5 Geomagnetic Pulsations and 750 Hz ELF Activity at Ground Level in the Northern and Southern ron density is high. On the other hand, the intensity of unstructured Pc 1–2 band pulsations and 750 Hz ELF emission is damped drastically when the waves propagate through the dark ionosphere where the density is low.

The basic physical processes are thought to be understood, at least qualitatively, but many unknown and/or controversial aspects remain, particularly concerning the configuration in the case of northward interplanetary magnetic field.

Impulsive Penetration of Solar Wind Plasma Irregularities into the Magnetosphere : Relevant Laboratboratory experiments have been reviewed in this article. Their application to the solar wind — magnetosphere system has been presented and discussed. But other additional laboratory experiments exist; they should also be reconsidered and possibly extended.
