Gabriele Glasenapp,Michael Nagelsoil HNO. mobilized and leached calcium, in the acid soils aluminium and calcium. Concentrations of sulfate varied less with time and depth than those of nitrate, and sulfate was less important for leaching of cations.

The Turnover of Protons by Mineralization and Ion Uptake in a Beech (Fagus Silvatica) and a Norway Ss well as due to the production of organic acids, less than the rate of H. production resulting from ion uptake. Thus the sum of both processes leads to ecosystem internal H. net production. The influence of the NH./NO. ratio during mineralization and ion uptake on the rate of ecosystem internal proton production is discussed.

Composition of Percolate from Reconstructed Profiles of Two Jack Pine Forest Soils as Influenced by siderable initial resistance, with SO.. movement hampered by strong S0.. adsorption; second, S0.. adsorption capacity is saturated and bases move freely with S0.. ions; third, when bases are depleted, H.-ions increasingly dominate charge composition, and concurrently, there is substantial mobilization of trace metals.
