The Aortic Valvee, and/or a valve area estimation by the continuity equation are crucial for diagnosis of aortic stenosis. Several parameters obtained by color flow Doppler imaging (e.g., vena contracta) and by continuous wave Doppler imaging (e.g., pressure half time) can be used for diagnosis of aortic regurgitation.

Advances in Plastination Techniquesnt on image quality. Using this approach, one can study most patients adequately without the need to resort to transesophageal echocardiography. However, transesophageal echocardiography remains of key importance in doubtful cases, and in selected cases should be considered as a first-line examination.
