Ahmed I. Zayed,Gilbert G. Walteransgenic mice has yielded interesting information on the low density lipoprotein-associating function of apoB-100. In future, transgenic animals expressing site-specific mutant apoB molecules will be a valuable tool to study the structure-function relationship of this complex but functionally important protein in lipid metabolism.

Increased shunting of cholesteryl esters into triglyceride-rich lipoproteins appears to be related to impaired triglyceride metabolic capacity which is indicated by the fasting lipoprotein constellation most frequently associated with coronary artery disease: low HDL cholesterol and a preponderance of small-sized HDL and LDL.
