The Crippling of the Private Branders in the direction of such optical parallel processing applications. We review pattern formation and solitons in a general context, show some proofof-principle soliton experiments in slow systems, and describe in more detail the experiments on semiconductor resonator solitons which are aimed at applications.

We then develop a more realistic model which includes discreteness and periodicity, and this in turn leads to a large number of soliton pair attractors. The important influence of the dispersion regime is stressed.

Soliton Dynamics in Mode-Locked Lasers,for any soliton system. These effects occur in physical elements that do not completely fill the cavity, thus there is a similarity to the dispersion management that is used in telecommunications systems.

Dissipative Solitons in Reaction-Diffusion Systems,vior of the extended pattern can be described in terms of simple individual properties of the particles and their interaction. A clear illustrative example for this approach is the concept of atoms. In this case, the elementary pattern or particle is the atom and the complex spatially-extended pattern is, e.g., the crystal.
