Graphs in Printapers during the years 1985-1994 revealed several dynamic trends in the characteristics of data graphics, as well as robust differences between media. However, graph features that have been singled out by experts as poor choices, such as “3-D” rendering, do not seem to be on the rise.

Diagrammatic Evaluation of Visual Mathematical Notationsions, because their evaluation rules or consequence relations correspond to visual or graphical transformations. The chapter presents constraint-based extensions of picture logic which render it suitable for the specification of such diagram notations and the required transformations.

Mechanical Reasoning about Gear-and-belt Diagrams: Do Eye-movements Predict Performance?ve chance whether the participant solved each problem correctly. These exploratory studies demonstrate that eye movement patterns contain crucial information about the moment-by-moment cognitive processes that underlie mechanical reasoning and mental animation, and suggest fruitful directions for future research.
