Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetic Kidney Diseasemechanisms. The prevention of CVD onset can mitigate morbidity and mortality from its complications, specifically with comorbid diabetes, CKD, and DKD. Thomas Hinz,Katrin Auspurg,Andreas Schneckminuria range. Although GFR can be within normal range early in this phase, it continues to decline as the stage progresses. Lastly, stage 5 is called end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or uremia. This stage is due to advanced diabetic nephropathy and requires initiation of renal replacement therapy for survival.

Combination of an ACE-I and an ARB is not recommended. Many new drugs that target protecting or preserving glomerular podocytes are currently being evaluated.
