The design philosophy of the combined systems for detection of explosive substances using x-ray andFor more than 10 years in Russia [.,.] and the USA [.,.] numerous attempts have been made to develop systems on the basis of TNA method for explosives detection in luggage of the air passengers. In this method explosives are identified on the basis of detection of gamma-radiation from nitrogen irradiated by thermal neutrons.

Detection of Explosives Using Continuous Microwaves,Application of ultra-high frequency (microwave) electromagnetic radiation for detection of explosive objects is based on the possibility to determine two parameters: a) shape and size of the object, and sometimes b) its dielectric constant. This can be achieved by using two kinds of systems: either pulsed radars or continuous-wave radars.
