From a comparison with experimental data it is concluded that the proposed model provides a satisfactory semi-quantitative description of PSB-GB fatigue crack initiation.

The Cyclic Deformation of Titanium: Dislocation Substructures and Effective and Internal Stressesnd the different cyclic hardening or softening stages are related to changes in these stress components. The cyclic softening stage corresponds essentially to a decrease in Δσ*, which result is discussed in terms of the mechanism by which oxygen in solution hardens titanium and zirconium.
