The scheme is particularly suitable for use with erasure codes, as it can be used to fetch a random subset of the replicas for decoding.

A Gradient Topology for Master-Slave Replication in Peer-to-Peer Environmentso solve the problem of replica placement through the clustering of peers with similar uptime and performance characteristics. We evaluate the algorithm by simulation, and propose an approach for master-slave replication that exploits the properties of the presented topology.
