Co-operative Environmental Governancends of federated architectures are employed, depending on the nature of the databases involved. In particular wrapping techniques are often used to remove some elements of heterogeneity (Roth and Schwarz 1997) and mediators are used to draw together information from disparate sources (Wiederhold 1992).
