Special emphasis is placed on the sustainable raw material alternatives for enzymatic production of xylitol using sugarcane bagasse as the main carbohydrate source.

Specifically, the combined/sequential use of processes targeting hemicellulose dissolution and hydrolysis might hold great promise for the economical production of pentoses.
