The time to blister development depends on a number of intrinsic, systemic, and local factors, and it is a direct indicator of the dermoepidermal adhesion strength. Therefore, this parameter plays a role in skin research.

Based on validation studies outlined in this chapter, it appears that the Cutaneous Dermatomyositis Disease Area and Severity Index demonstrates superiority over the other tools and is a useful outcome measure for dermatomyositis.
