Changes of the Neuroendocrine System in Alzheimer-type Dementia, found to be very similar throughout the cortical areas, without a relationship to areas of functional deficit. Besides the cholinergic deficits, loss of locus caeruleus cells (Tomlinson .., 1981), deficits of dopamine-β-hydroxylase (Cross .., 1981), and reduced noradrenaline concentrations (Yates .., 1981) have been reported in ATD.
