Model Studies of Background Ozone Formationd clean continental boundary layer. In summer, the net production and the net loss are about the same magnitude as the O. flux from the stratosphere. In winter, the production of O. depends critically on nighttime reactions involving NO. and N.O.. Without these reactions, the O. production in winter can be as large as in summer.
