Changes in Myocardial Blood Flow and Myocardial Function are not Necessarily Unambigously Relateds in myocardial blood flow and function, are the metabolic consequences of the flow reduction and the loading conditions of the myocardium. Evenso restoration of myocardial blood flow following ischemia does not always result in recovery of myocardial function.

Metabolic Consequences of Myocardial Underperfusion present contribution deals with the metabolic consequences of myocardial ischemia. The methods to study specific ischemia-induced alterations of metabolic pathways are presented. Their value in diagnosis and therapy of ischemic heart disease is evaluated and discussed with emphasis to (future) use in a modern cardiology department.
